The Most Trusted Seismic & Environmental Monitoring Platform
Kinemetrics Environmental Monitoring Platform
Aspen is a complete seismic and environmental monitoring platform designed to meet the unique challenges presented by the world’s most critical seismic networks. Over decades, it has been proven to operate flawlessly in the most demanding conditions, while delivering in excess of 99% data return.
Implementations can scale from a few to thousands of sensors of all types. Aspen’s open architecture delivers interoperability with any required sensors, digitizers, communications and networking technologies. The platform is operated on six continents by dozens of the world’s premier environmental monitoring networks.
By delivering a platform that can operate under the highest requirements and harshest conditions, Aspen easily meets the needs of any environmental monitoring network, large or small.
Managing an environmental monitoring system relies upon trust in its technology, open design, and continuing support. Your selection of a platform impacts every aspect of your network throughout its entire lifecycle. It's essential to be prepared for the many variables at play, as it is nearly impossible to anticipate every challenge your network will face over years or decades of operation.
What instrumentation does your system need to support?
What are the environmental challenges the system must meet?
Can you afford data outages? How do you ensure the highest possible data return?
Reliable operation of your environmental monitoring network, regardless of its size, requires a platform the you can trust to meet its needs today, and adjust as your needs change.
What if you had access to a platform trusted by the world’s preeminent seismic monitoring networks to meet the most stringent requirements under the harshest conditions?
How Do You Monitor the World’s Most Challenging Regions?
The Aspen platform has been proven to operate to the highest requirements in the most diverse conditions.
The USArray project crossed the continental US into Alaska with more than 2,000 installations over 15 years of operation. On average, every day for 10 years, 1 station was installed, and 1 station was decommissioned, creating one of the most complex data, metadata, and management challenges ever. This process provided the ideal conditions to extend and harden the core pillars of the Aspen platform.
Implement seismic, strong motion, meteorological, and any other instrumentation
Low-latency, real-time processing with ultra-high data return
Highly-scalable open architecture with flexible telemetry
Deploy in any region regardless of temperature, environmental conditions, low light level, wildlife, or remoteness
Data return is the foundation of environmental and seismic monitoring. Natural events such as earthquakes cannot be replicated, which means that any data loss is unrecoverable.
Aspen routinely delivers in excess of 99% data return over dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of sensor installations. During the USArray project, Aspen was used to deliver 99.7% data return in one of the most extreme and complex continental deployments ever undertaken.
Environmental monitoring relies upon an array of different sensor types deployed in any number of location types.
Aspen delivers the ability to integrate and manage nearly any instrumentation, broadband sensors, strong motion sensors, digitizers, geodetic GPS, meteorological stations, infrasound, video, and more. Any communications technology can be utilized, including Internet, satellite, intranet, radio, cellular, etc.
The platform enables you to deploy what you need, where you need it, mixing and changing communications technology as required.
Aspen provides a redundant high-end data center that houses tools for monitoring the state-of-health and remote calibration of deployed hardware, real-time data acquisition, and processing software systems with automated reporting and dissemination functions.
It delivers scalability from a handful to thousands of sensors, and supports the real-time processing and ultra-low latency required by early warning systems.
Environmental monitoring solutions must integrate with associated systems and provide the ability to incorporate new methods and functionality as technology advances.
Aspen has the flexibility and extensibility to integrate with any environmental monitoring network. Its open architecture enables easy interconnection with existing hardware and software systems. It also supports deployment via permanent on-site installations, cloud-based installations, or temporary mobile installations.
With Aspen, national environmental monitoring networks, structural monitoring, and more can be managed via a single platform.
Since 1969, Kinemetrics and its subsidiaries have been the global market leaders in designing technology platforms, products, and solutions for monitoring earthquakes and their effects on people and structures. Our products represent the de facto standard to which other products are compared.
